DiMarzio PickUp Contest & Guitar Play-Off

Sponsored by The Perfect 5th Musical Arts Center

Mechanicsburg, PA  September 12, 2011 – The Perfect 5th Musical Arts Center (P5), a new music school located on the Carlisle Pike in Mechanicsburg, is holding two contests this month.  They are both meant to bring attention to the center’s grand opening at the end of the month, which will be highlighted by the Steve Vai Master Class at the Whitaker Center (9/25).

Anyone can enter the DiMarzio Pickup Contest by simply signing up for the P5 email list through the website at ThePerfect5th.com. Individuals can get a second chance at winning by “liking” the school’s Facebook page – Facebook.com/ThePerfect5th.  This must be done by Sept. 18th at 11:59pm.  Winners will be announced on Sept. 20th.  Full contest details are on The Perfect 5th website.

Guitarists are very familiar with the DiMarzio brand. The company is best known for its revolutionary direct-replacement electric guitar pickups, of which millions have been sold around the world.  For this contest, DiMarzio has graciously supplied several of their Steve Vai Signature items:

  • Grand Prize (2 winners) – Steve Vai Signature “Evolution” pickups ($230 value)
  • 1st Prize – Steve Vai Signature “The Breed” pickups ($218 value)
  • 2nd Prize (2 winners) – Steve Vai Signature guitar cable ($125 value)
  • 3rd Prize (2 winners) – Steve Vai leather ClipLock ($105 value)

Both Steve Vai and The Perfect 5th’s director, Eric Wirsing, are endorsed by DiMarzio.  Larry DiMarzio himself contacted Eric as soon as he heard about the school and the master class and offered the above items for this contest.  It’s also interesting to note that the photo used on the event poster (with Steve sitting in the red chair) was taken by Larry DiMarzio.  You can read more about Larry and the company he founded on their Facebook page and at DiMarzio.com.

The second contest is a guitar play-off to be held at Bistro 19 (19 N. George Street, York, PA) on Sunday, Sept. 18th at 2pm.  Guitarists who want to compete must upload or already have a video online of them playing a solo.  Then they can enter by registering through the Bistro 19 website where they will provide a link to their video.  Up to 10 contestants will be selected to compete in person on the day of the play-off.  Each musician will get a 2-minute time slot to perform a solo live on stage.  The judges, consisting of P5′s Eric Wirsing along with two other local celebrity musicians, will select the winners and award the following prizes:

  • 1st Place – VIP ticket to the Steve Vai Master Class ($200 value – includes front row seating, meet & greet with Steve, and a signed poster)
  • 2nd Place – Ticket to Steve Vai Master Class
  • 3rd Place – $50 gift certificate to Bistro 19

More information and the registration form can be accessed through ThePerfect5th.com/guitar-contest or on the club’s website at Bistro19York.com.

Both of these contests are designed to bring attention to the grand opening of The Perfect 5th Musical Arts Center, which is located at 6240 Carlisle Pike in Mechanicsburg, PA, and will take place on the last weekend of this month.  On Saturday, Sept. 24 from 2:30pm-5:30pm, there will be an open house at the P5 facility (more details to be announced soon).  Then on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 2:30pm, the highlight of the weekend will be the Steve Vai Master Class at the Whitaker Center in downtown Harrisburg, PA.  The press release announcing that event is posted on the school’s website.
